CAFIA Director General has decided today to extend special area inspections of fresh vegetables throughout the entire territory of the Czech Republic. In the next two weeks, 260 samples of fresh vegetables will be taken. Samples are taken from all kinds of vegetables, not only from bio-cucumbers.

Cucumbers from Spain suspected of being contaminated with Escherichia coli bacteria enterohemorrhagic have been delivered also to the Czech Republic in recent days. It is a salad bio-cucumber from a German supplier. The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority received that message a few minutes ago from the German side through the Rapid Alert System RASFF. The Czech Republic has not reported any case of infection yet.

In these days, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) keeps watch on the situation on the market, namely in connection with diseases caused by toxin produced by bacteria Escherichia coli in Germany. Salad cucumbers from Spain are probably the originators of this toxin.

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected sulphur dioxide in product sold under trade name “Candied Pears”, lot L: O 056, best before: 1. 10. 2011, packaging à 150 g; the amount of sulphur dioxide exceeded the admissible maximum limit almost four times.

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected aflatoxins in volume exceeding the limits in product under name "Pistachios roasted salted" (lot L046, best before 18. 12. 2011, packaging á 200 g).

On 28 April 2011, the final conference to the project of cross-border cooperation implemented by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority and the Saxon Ministry for Social Affairs and Consumer Protection was held in Meissen. Results of the project and options of future collaboration were outlined during the conference.
