Toxic threat in bio stuffed olives with almonds

11/01/2011

Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority has ordered immediate withdrawal of „Bio Gaudiano“ green olives produced in Italy from the retail network. Presence of Botulinum toxin has been found, which can seriously affect human health. The product has been distributed in the Czech Republic, however the contaminated lot, found in Finland, has not reached the Czech retail network.
Based on the precautionary principle, all lots and all product packaging of “Bio stuffed olives with almonds”, trade name “Bio Gaudiano”, produced by the Cooperativa Agricola G.M.G. a r.l. dei F.lli Gaudiano, in 2010 and 2011, have been re-called.
CAFIA has been notified through RASFF which connects all countries of the European Union. CAFIA staff have inspected the importer and have taken necessary measures to protect the health of consumers.
A total of 594 green olive bottles have been imported to the Czech Republic. The unsafe lot marked as “Best before 9/2012”, volume of 314 ml with presence of Botulinum however has not reached Czech retailers.
CAFIA strongly advises not to consume the product.
