The central system of CAFIA is the professional information system “Control, Laboratory and Legal Activities.”
The Control module records the results of inspection activities carried out in the field by CAFIA inspectors. Data are entered either directly in the field or subsequently at inspectorates. The system uses code lists assigning codes to each type of activity, enabling easy processing and classification of inspection findings. The module provides detailed overviews of inspection results, imposed measures, bans, and administrative proceedings. Inspectors use the data to prepare for inspections, legal staff for recording administrative proceedings, and management for planning inspections at regional and national levels. The module also records: registration of food production of plant origin under the Food Act (§ 3) and notifications on placing fruit and vegetables on the market or exporting them (§ 3a). A separate section called “Complaints” records inspection triggers, mainly based on public complaints.
The Laboratory module manages sample records from receipt in laboratories through analysis assignment, linking results, preparation of output documents, and printing.
The Legal module ensures records of administrative proceedings linked to inspections or fines. It tracks the current status and full course of proceedings.
