08/14/2018

Since the end of the previous year, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) has been detecting an increased number of cases of non-compliant apples from abroad with pesticides exceeding the limits.

Results of analyses carried out by the CAFIA accredited laboratory currently confirmed presence of pesticide bifenthirn exceeding the permitted limit in a lot of green apples: Golden Delicious variety, packaged à 2kg, lot: 509/05/18T, country of origin: Poland. Supplier P+P spol. s r.o., Prague was indicated on the labelling. The non-compliant sample was taken at the premises of company Tesco Stores ČR a.s.

The highest permitted limit for presence of pesticide bifenthrin in apples is 0.01 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg), however, the analysis confirmed its presence amounting to 0.062 mg/kg.

CAFIA entered the information into the European Rapid Alert System (RASFF) and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.

CAFIA informed of similar cases in its press releases of: 21st June 2018, 23rd February 2018, 15th January 2018, 5th January 2018 and 30th November 2017.
