01/05/2018

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) pays its constant attention, inter alia, to inspection of presence of foreign substances in fresh fruit and vegetables on the Czech market, namely both from Czech and foreign suppliers. Result of the analysis performed in the CAFIA accredited laboratory currently confirmed presence of pesticide chlorpyrifos exceeding the permitted limit in a lot of bulk apples of variety red Champion originating from Poland. The maximum permitted limit for presence of chlorpyrifos 0.01 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) was exceeded more than sevenfold, the laboratory detected value amounting to 0.075 mg/kg.

The non-compliant sample was taken at the premises of company MAKRO Cash & Carry ČR s.r.o. in Ostrava. Company Olymp Fruit s.r.o. from Trutnov was then the supplier to Makro.

CAFIA entered the information into the European Rapid Alert System (RASFF) and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person. CAFIA informed on a similar case in its press release of 30th November 2017.
