CAFIA analysis confirmed forbidden pesticide propargite in apples from Poland

01/15/2018

Within regular inspections focused on the presence of foreign substances in foodstuffs, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected presence of prohibited pesticide propargite in a lot of apples (red Gloster variety) originating in Poland. The analysis carried out in the CAFIA laboratory confirmed contamination by propargite amounting to 0.043 mg/kg.

CAFIA inspectors took the sample at the premises of company MAKRO Cash & Carry ČR s.r.o. in Olomouc.

The use of propargite for protection of plants is prohibited on the EU territory due to its undesirable effects. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons.

CAFIA recently informed of similar case in its press releases of 5th January 2018 and 30th November 2017.
