In the previous year, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) carried out an extensive inspection focused on detection of genetic modifications in foodstuffs offered on the Czech market. The use of genetically modified raw materials is possible in the European Union, however, only a modification approved by the European Commission could be the case.

The „dioxin case“ which has its origin in Germany, has been closely followed in the Czech Republic by the National Contact Point (NCP) operated at the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA). EU member states, linked together with this system, inform one another about the risky food and feed in the European market.

The Czech National Contact Point for RASSF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed), which is managed by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority, strongly rejects false and misleading information about the alleged importation of contaminated feeding fat for poultry and pigs from Germany to the Czech Republic.

Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) has been focusing its inspections on the import of foodstuffs from third countries. These controls successfully reduce the risk of delivery of dangerous food on the local market. After being notified by Customs Authorities in Karlovy Vary, the supply of 72 kg gelatine sweets has been detained.

During inspection of quality and health unwholesomeness of wine offered in retail network, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) revealed serious deficiencies in two cases. Company LIVI spol. s r.o., Dubňany imported more than 36 000 litres this wine into the Czech Republic. Wine was filled into two-litre PET bottles and it was subsequently distributed to retail network by company ZLATÝ HROZEN spol. s .r.o., Dubňany.

Director General of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority Jakub Šebesta has sent today a protest letter to José Luis de Felipe, Director of the RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed) which belongs to DG SANCO (Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection) of the European Commission. He asks for an explanation of the unprecedented process concerning dioxin case, when the centre of this all-European system failed to sent in time information to the Czech National Contact Point which is managed by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority.

The initial conference to the project of cross-border cooperation of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority and the Saxon Ministry for Social Affairs and Consumer Protection was held in Most on 18. January 2011. CAFIA inspectorates in Plzeň and Ústí nad Labem and Saxon supervisory bodies subordinate to the Saxon Ministry mentioned above are involved in the project.

At the beginning of the last week, authorized personnel of CAFIA Prague carried out extensive inspections of food vendors at the SAPARIA market, Prague Disctrict IV, during which they banned the circulation of food in quantities exceeding 3500 kg.

On the basis of an inspection carried out at company Kaufland Czech Republic v.o.s, inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered to withdraw from the circulation product Plum jam one-component with low sugar content (best before date 21. 12. 2011, product weight 240 g). This jam was imported from Poland by company BENEFIT Ltd. Želechovice nad Dřevnicí, which then supplied it to companies Kaufland Czech Republic v.o.s. and VERNER Food Ltd.

In November 2010, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority concluded inspections focused on the sale of half-fermented wine (burčák) and partly-fermented grape must that can be sold only from the beginning of August until the end of November. Now the second round of results and the final results of laboratory analyses are available.
