The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) banned marketing of product NATURE PARK Hazelnut Seeds (best before date 28. 7. 2012, packaging á 100 g) originating from Georgia. Hazelnut seeds were infected with adult insects and with larvae. Evidence suggesting insect activity, for example webs, defected fruits or residues of larvae activity, has been found in packaging.
K-Servis Company Inc. in Prague, which is the producer of the consumer packaging, supplied the food to BILLA Ltd. in the amount of 3 510 kg.
CAFIA ordered immediate withdrawal of the abovementioned products; therefore they should not be found in the retail chain any more. It is likely that due to long best before date consumers can still have hazelnut seeds stored at home. The Inspection Authority recommends to consume this food with caution. Pests are apparent on visual inspection.
Information about the case was forwarded to the Rapid Alert System pro Food and Feed.
