CAFIA detained further tea from China containing pesticides

Within regular precautionary inspections of imported foodstuffs, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found two non-compliant lots of tea originating in China. CAFIA did not release the lots in question from the EU internal market as the limit for pesticides was approximately fivefold exceeded.

Tea labelled as Bai Ya Qi Lan failed to comply as regards presence of pesticide lufenuron. Legislation lays down maximum possible concentration 0.002 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg), however, the broad-scale laboratory analysis confirmed concentration amounting to 0.099 mg/kg.

Tea labelled as Jasmine Pearl failed to comply as regards presence of pesticides buprofezine and dinotefuran. The analysis confirmed concentration of buprofezine amounting to 0.18 mg/kg (permitted limit is: 0.05  mg/kg) and concentration of dinotefuran amounting to 0.051 mg/kg (the limit is: 0.01 mg/kg).

Company CHANGSHA WUFENG TEA CO., LTD, ADD.: 325, Xingsha Ave., Xingsha, Changsha, HUNAN, China is the supplier of the lots concerned while company Expect spol. s r.o.,Husova 23, Hořice 50801 is the purchaser in the CR.

Due to this CAFIA intervention before the products were released into circulation in the CR or EU, domestic consumers were not exposed to those non-compliant teas. CAFIA was similarly involved in previous cases, see e. g. press release of 22nd July 2016 or 2nd April 2016.
