CAFIA detained consignment of 247 kg of tea from China containing pesticides

04/02/2016

During an inspection of 7 sorts of tea from China carried out in the customs area of the Prague – Ruzyně airport, the inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) took a sample of tea LIZHI BLACK TEA to check possible presence of pesticide residues. During the laboratory analysis, also carried out by CAFIA, the sample failed to comply due to presence acetamiprid, imidacloprid and fipronil exceeding the limits laid down by Regulation No. 396/2005. In order CAFIA does not ban the whole consignment, the importer asked CAFIA for sampling remaining six lots of teas. The analysis showed presence of pesticides exceeding the limits at four of these teas.

CAFIA consequently decided not to release following parts of the consignment into market in the Czech Republic:

LIZHI BLACK TEA, weight of the consignment: 50 kg, failed to comply due to presence of pesticide residue acetamiprid, imidacloprid a fipronil,

JASMINE TEA, weight of the consignment: 75 kg, failed to comply due to presence of pesticide residue acetamiprid,

BAI MU DAN, weight of the consignment: 64 kg, failed to comply due to presence of pesticide residue acetamiprid, etofenprox, imidacloprid and pyridaben,

QI HONG, weight of the consignment: 34 kg, failed to comply due to presence of pesticide residue acetamiprid,

TAI MU LONG ZHU-MOLI, 24 kg, failed to comply due to presence of pesticide residue acetamiprid.

Out of 7 sorts of tea in the consignment of weight of 316 kg, 5 sorts amounting to 247 kg failed to comply. The non-compliant parts of the consignment will be, after the consent by CAFIA and Customs Authorities, destroyed, re-processed for non-food purposes or returned outside the EU territory. According to the accompanying documentation, Company Bound-H Logisitcs (HK) CO., Ltd, 698 Princes Edward Rd, Hongkong, China was the supplier of the goods.
