Warning for consumers: two cases of Salmonella in chilled chicken meat from abroad

12/07/2023

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) is warning consumers against two lots of unsafe chicken meat. This is a result of an extraordinary microbiological inspection. The laboratory analysis has confirmed presence of bacteria of genus Salmonella Infantis, the causative agent of salmonellosis. Following products are concerned:

TESCO – CHICKEN BREAST FILLET, fresh, A quality category, use by date by: 12.10.2023, lot: 23404102, bred and slaughtered: the Ukraine, producer: WE Trade s.r.o., Hlavná 1088, 925 03 Horné Saliby, Slovakia. CAFIA inspectors took the sample at the premises of Tesco Stores ČR a.s., Willsonova 420, Soběslav 39201.

TESCO CHICKEN BREAST FILLET, fresh, A quality category, use by date by: 28.9.2023, lot: 23384102, bred and slaughtered: the Ukraine, producer: WE Trade s.r.o., Hlavná 1088, 925 03 Horné Saliby, Slovakia. CAFIA inspectors took the sample at the premises of Tesco Stores ČR a.s., Bělohorská 4492/161, Brno 636 00.

As the products in question were marked by “Use by date: 12. 10. 2023” or “Use by date: 28. 9. 2023”, they are no longer on the market. However, CAFIA strongly recommends all consumers who might have the products in frozen state at home that they do not consume them. Freezing has virtually no effect on bacterial contamination.

CAFIA entered the notification of the discovery of these non-compliant foodstuffs into the European Rapid Alert System for Food (RASFF).

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure to impose a fine to the inspected person.

CAFIA informed about findings of a similar nature in its Press Releases of 22 August 2023, of 12 July 2023, of 15 September 2023 and of 9 October 2023.
