The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected a food supplement containing substance amygdaline in a concentration over the limit. After consumed, this substance metabolises in human body to hydrogen cyanide and cyanides.
Food supplement B17 PREVENTUM, 100 mg, 75 capsules, best before date by: 6th November 2022, lot: L 20-HM 709CZ-06.05 is concerned. CAFIA inspectors took the sample at the premises of company Herbamedicus, s.r.o., Ostružnická 325/6, 779 00 Olomouc, which is the distributor of the foodstuff in question.
Laboratory analysis of the food sample confirmed presence of substance amygdalin amounting to 84.7 milligrams (mg) in one recommended daily dosage, which is amount c. 3.5 times exceeding the maximum daily dosage regarded as safe.
CAFIA strongly warns all consumers against consumption of the food supplement in question.
CAFIA ordered immediate withdrawal of the unsafe lot from the market and sent a notification into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed RASFF.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons.
CAFIA has already informed of its detections of unsafe food supplements with very high content of amygdalin in its press releases of 9th March 2021 and 28th January 2021.
