Kaufland offered adulterated ketchup from abroad

08/10/2018

More than 30 percent of tomatoes compared to the information on labelling were missing in ketchup K-Classic Ketchup hot, tomato ketchup hot pasteurised, packaged à 500 m. (555 g), best before date by 27th June 2018, seller: Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s., made in Poland. CAFIA inspectors took the sample of the foodstuff in question at the premises of Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s. in Dvůr Králové nad Labem.

Information on the labelling provided consumers with following information: 100 g of ketchup were made from 220 g of tomatoes (note: 100 g of the finished foodstuff was made from 220 g of raw tomatoes). However, laboratory analysis proved content of tomatoes amounting to 152 g of tomatoes used for production of 100 g of ketchup only. Information on the labelling thus significantly misled consumers as regards the content of a key ingredient defining the nature of this foodstuff.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.

CAFIA informed of similar cases in its press releases of: 17. 8. 2017, 26. 7. 2017 and 21. 7. 2017.
