Update: CAFIA confirms the danger of NutrilonPRO Futura infant formula containing the toxin cereulide

03/31/2026

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA), following its warning issued on 26 March 2026 concerning the product Nutrilon PRO Futura DUO BIOTIK 1, infant formula (0–6 months), weight 800 g, best before: 05-11-2027, production date: 05-11-2025, in which the presence of the toxin cereulide was detected, warns that this is a food harmful to health.

At the request of CAFIA, the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) carried out a health risk assessment. In its current conclusion, the NIPH states that, at the recommended dosage of the product, exposure to the cereulide toxin corresponds to a value of 0.018 µg per kilogram of an infant’s body weight, and therefore the product is considered harmful to health. The detected level of cereulide in the batch in question exceeds the acute reference dose (ARfD) established by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which is 0.014 µg/kg of body weight.

The cereulide toxin may cause nausea and vomiting, which are particularly dangerous in infants due to the risk of rapid dehydration.

The NIPH therefore considers the detected amount of cereulide in this food to be harmful to health within the meaning of Article 14(2)(a) of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002.

CAFIA has ordered the withdrawal of the batch in question from the market.

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority strongly advises consumers not to feed this batch of the product to infants.

As part of an extraordinary inspection campaign, CAFIA has so far collected 143 samples of powdered infant milk formulas for laboratory assessment. An overview of all evaluated batches of infant formulas – both compliant and non-compliant – is continuously published on the “Food Pillory” portal and on the CAFIA website.

The public will be promptly informed of any further non-compliant infant formulas.
