The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) prohibited the company Torgretail CZ s.r.o., Jeremiášova 947/16, 155 00 Prague 5 – Stodůlky, operating the MERE store network, from placing on the market the following batch of non-compliant food:
STEWED CHICKEN meat, sterilized canned meat in a 250 g package, with a best-before date of 28.04.2027, distributor: SIA Grace Baltic, Kalnciema 32a-16, Riga LV-1083, Latvia.
The manufacturer stated in the composition on the packaging, among other things: meat content 97%. However, laboratory analysis in an accredited laboratory confirmed the presence of meat in the batch of food in question in an amount of 79.1%. By not complying with the stated composition of the food, the consumer was misled.
Laboratory analysis further confirmed the presence of the allergen soy protein in the food. Given that the food contains an allergen (soy protein), which was not stated on the packaging, the product poses a health risk to a group of consumers with allergies or intolerance to the stated allergen and the food is therefore considered harmful to health.
In view of the above facts, the inspectors ordered the seller to immediately withdraw the non-compliant batch from the market. According to the documents on the origin of the goods, a total of 1,250 pieces of the non-compliant batch of food were delivered by the manufacturer. The inspectors took the non-compliant sample at the Torgretail CZ s.r.o. establishment, Textilní 3411/5, 400 01 Ústí nad Labem.
CAFIA will initiate administrative proceedings with the inspected person to impose a fine.
CAFIA forwarded the information to the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed RASFF, which will allow the case to be investigated in the country of origin of the food.
