Within its ongoing intensive quality and safety inspections, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) also performs inspections at public catering establishments in order to check whether spirits are sold with the inspection tape - so-called tax stamp. The inspectors revealed this unauthorised practice at the premises of NakupRum s.r.o., Koliště 1907/3, 602 00, Brno - Černá Pole.
As a part of the official inspection, CAFIA inspectors found 76 bottles amounting to about 70 litres that were not equipped with tax stamps serving for authentication and tracing the goods. The spirits were in original bottles or in new glass bottles labelled for example "Ginger Classic Vodka" or "Ginger Premium White Rum".
In total, 5 types of spirits were mixed and bottled to different volumes right at the premises. Pursuant to the Act on Mandatory Labelling of Spirits, all spirits in consumer packaging larger than 0.06 l and containing more than 15% of alcohol shall be labelled with a tax stamp.
CAFIA immediately informed the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic - Customs Office for the South Moravian Region and seized the spirits in question.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure with the inspected person to impose a fine.
CAFIA warns food business operators that this practice is illegal and Act No. 307/2013 Coll., on Mandatory Labelling of Spirits, prohibits them from handling unlabelled alcohol under a fine which may amount up to CZK 5 million.
