The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected two lots of imported hams adulterated as regards their meat content which was lower by c. 10% compared to the information stated on the labelling. The hams in question were found in retail network. Following foodstuffs are concerned:

BERGER KRŮTÍ ŠUNKA, Puten Schinken, packaging à 100 g, with best before date by: 03.06.2021, producer: Fleischwaren Berger GesmbH & CoKG, Koglerstrasse 8, 3443 Sieghartskirchen, Austria. On the labelling, the producer stated, inter alia: “poultry breast 85%”. However, laboratory analysis carried out in the CAFIA laboratory confirmed presence of meat from chicken breast amounting to 75.9% only. CAFIA inspectors took the non-compliant sample at the premises of Globus ČR, v.o.s. on Sárská street 133/5, Prague 5.  

RADATZ WIENER FARMER SCHINKEN - Vídeňská farmářská šunka od kosti vařená a uzená (Vienna farm cooked and smoked bone ham), packaging à 150 g, with best before date by: 04.06.2021, producer: Radatz GmbH, Erlaaer Straße 187, A-1230 Wien, Austria. On the labelling, the producer stated, inter alia: “pork” (96%). However, laboratory analysis carried out in the CAFIA laboratory confirmed presence of pork amounting to 85.4% only.  The non-compliant sample was taken at the premises of company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s., on Lochotínská street 1108/18, Plzeň.

The information on the labelling was misleading in both cases as regards the real composition of the foodstuffs. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons. CAFIA will enter the information into the European system for fight against adulterated foodstuffs (AACS), which will enable completing the investigation in the country of origin.
