Inspection confirmed high quality of foodstuffs with KLASA and Regionální potravina award

02/19/2020

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority regularly performs an inspection activity focused on foodstuffs awarded with the KLASA and Regionální potravina brand. Results of inspections carried out in 2019 confirmed high quality and safety of these foodstuffs. From the point of view of CAFIA detections, this is the least problematic food category. As regards other categories, inspectors usually detected higher proportions of non-compliant samples which were by one order higher.

In the previous year the total of 171 lots of foodstuffs awarded by the KLASA brand were assessed out of which one lot failed to comply with the assessed parameters.

The inspectors further assessed 77 lots of foodstuffs awarded by the Regionální potravina brand. All assessed lots complied with the legislation requirements, however, 2 products failed to comply with the rules for awarding the Regionální potravina brand (failing to comply with the prescribed proportion of raw materials from the CR).

Foodstuffs with the KLASA and Regionální potravina brand have to comply not only with requirements laid down by national and European legislation but also with requirements laid down by conditions for the use of the quality brand which are beyond the usual standard. I. e. higher proportion of meat in meat products, stricter regulation of the use of sweeteners, colorants and further additives or higher demands as regards taste and consistency of the foodstuffs are concerned.

The summary of all assessed samples of foodstuffs with the national quality brand KLASA and Regionální potravina in 2019 was released on the Food Pillory website in its section Thematic Inspections.

CAFIA inspectors have already been checking foodstuffs with quality awards 17 years and results of the inspections regularly confirm the highest quality of the assessed products.
