Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) did not release a consignment of “Dried figs” originating in Turkey, lot: 44020827/1-11-204, in amount of 6,660 kg onto the CR internal market. The inspection was carried out in co-operation with the Customs Authority for the Central Bohemian Region – workplace in Rudná.

Maximum limit of aflatoxin B1 was exceeded at the sampled foodstuff. The figs contained 97.4 ug/kg of aflatoxin B1, however, the limit is 6.0 ug/kg only. The sum of aflatoxins B1, B2, G1 and G2 was exceeded as well, namely the total detected value amounted to 113 ug/kg, however, the maximum permitted limit 10 ug/kg only.

Aflatoxins belong to the group of mycotoxins occurring as a mould metabolism product and are carcinogenic.

Company Ing. Bohumil KRATOCHVÍL - IBK TRADE, Dolanská 7/337, 161 00, Prague was the importer into the CR. Company PAK TARIM URUNLERI SAN VE DIS TIC.LTD., BUYUK SIRE PAZARI 6 BLOK NO: 23, Malatya, Turkey sent the fig consignment in question onto the Czech market.

With regard to the fact that legislation requirements for the maximum permitted level of mycotoxins in foodstuffs were not kept, the consignment was not released onto the Czech market and consumers’ health thus was not threatened.

The importer was ordered to ensure destruction of the consignment in question under customs supervision or to send it back outside the EU.

CAFIA entered the information on the detection into the European Rapid Alert System RASFF.
