The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s. to immediately withdraw a non-compliant lot of durable meat products from all its branches. Product Tyrolini Tyrolské klobásky (Tyrolean sausages) packaged à 120 g with best before date by: 5th December 2019 produced by Handl Tyrol GmbH, Bundesstrasse 33, A-6551 Pians, Austria was concerned.
The producer stated, inter alia, on the labelling: “100 g of sausages were made with 190 g of pork”. However, laboratory analysis of the lot in question confirmed presence of pork amounting to 160.8 g per 100 g of the final dried product only.
Information on the labelling thus mislead consumers as regards the real composition of the foodstuff, and European Regulation No. 1169/2011 on provision of information on foodstuffs to consumers was thus violated, namely in the meaning of misleading of consumers.
CAFIA ordered the seller to withdraw the lot in question from all branches and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine.
CAFIA had already informed of similar cases in its press releases of 16. 4. 2019, 12. 3. 2019 and 8. 3. 2019.
Note: In case of dried (durable and fermented) meat products, the weight of the final product is indicated on the labelling after drying, but the weight of component ingredients is indicated before drying. The total weight of the final commodity is thus lower than the total weight of the used ingredients.
