The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) pays an intensive attention to inspection of fresh fruit including exotic sorts. Current monitoring of foreign substances in foodstuffs sold in retail network detected a lot of non-compliant mango, variety Tommy Atkins originating from Brasilia. The analysis carried out by the national reference laboratory belonging to CAFIA confirmed that the fruit contained pesticide trifloxystrobin amounting to 0.13 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg), however, the maximum admissible amount is laid down as no more than 0.01 mg/kg only.

The non-compliant lot of fresh unpacked fruit was sampled at the premises of company Penny Market s.r.o. Company Čerozfrucht s.r.o. was then the supplier.

Trifloxystrobin is a pesticide with fungicidal effect.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.

CAFIA detects presence of foreign substances or unauthorized substances above limit in particular at imported assortment – teas, poppy seeds and fresh fruit and vegetables. For more information, check relevant section of Press Releases.
