Warning for consumers: CAFIA found chocolate biscuits with c. 3,500 times higher content of peanuts than indicated on the labelling
08/26/2019The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) banned placing following foodstuff on the market: ”SUŠENKY S KOUSKY ČOKOLÁDY A LÍSKOVÝMI OŘECHY” (Biscuits with chocolate bits and hazelnuts) packaged à 150 g with best before date by: 5th March 2020, lot: L191021, providing information: “Made for Cookiesland s.r.o., Horní Líštná 92, 739 61 Třinec.” Follow-up investigation carried out by CAFIA inspectors revealed that the biscuits were purchased from producer: P.W. SPOMET SP.J., A. Nowotarski, J. Medrzak, J. Kaminski, M. Adamczyk, ul. Žiwiecka 13, 43 - 300 Bielsko – Biala, Poland.
Laboratory analysis confirmed presence of peanuts in the foodstuff which amounted to 86,332 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). The producer indicated on the labelling, inter alia, that “May contain peanuts.” However, the given amount exceeds the amount admissible as unintentional cross-contamination, i.e. traces of peanuts by multiple orders.
The foodstuff in question may pose a serious health risk for persons suffering from an allergy or intolerance to peanuts. CAFIA recommends all consumers with the allergy or intolerance to peanuts that do not eat the lots of foodstuff concerned.
