CAFIA did not release teas with pesticides above limits into the CR

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) did not release a consignment of tea coming from China onto the internal Czech market. In co-operation with the Customs Authorities of Prague – Ruzyně, the inspectors detained the consignment at the customs area of the airport to take samples for a laboratory analysis. Results of the analysis of teas labelled as “Fujian Green Tea Snail” and “Guangdong Mi Lan Xiang H-M” showed that maximum permitted limits for two types of pesticides were exceeded.

At tea “Guangdong Mi Lan Xiang H-M” supplied by Tea Co. Ltd., RM 1902, Kaiyue Building, Dongwu Road 155, Suzhou, China, the analysis carried out in the CAFIA laboratory proved presence of pesticide buprofezin amounting to 0.39 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg, the maximum limit laid down by legislation is 0.05 mg/kg) and presence of pesticide tolfenpyrad amounting to 0.96 mg/kg (the maximum limit laid down by legislation is 0.01 mg/kg).

At tea “Fujian Green Tea Snail” supplied by FU JIAN PROVINCE GUANG FU TEA CO., LTD, Hu Lin Pan Xi Town, Fu Ding City, Fu jian Province, China, the analysis carried out in the CAFIA laboratory proved presence of pesticide buprofezin amounting to 0.21 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg, the maximum limit laid down by legislation is 0.05 mg/kg) and presence of pesticide tolfenpyrad amounting to 0.51 mg/kg (the maximum limit laid down by legislation is 0.01 mg/kg).

Company AMANA s. r. o. imported both lots into the CR.

With regard to the failure to keep the limits for presence of pesticides, the CAFIA inspectors decided not to release the consignment onto the EU internal market so that health of consumers was not threatened.
