CAFIA ordered withdrawal of imported meat products with misleading labelling

04/16/2019

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found two further uncompliant lots of meat products made by company TARCZYŃSKI S.A., Ujeździec Maly 80, 55 100 Trzebnica, Poland. Following products were sampled at the premises of company Lidl Česká republika v.o.s., Písečná 5583, Chomutov:

PIKOK KABANOSY EXTRA TENKÉ, packaged à: 120 g, lot: L 0212/F130/14457 07:34:59/ 11 13, best before date by: 20.06.2019, country of origin: Poland. Among others, the producer stated on the labelling: “100g of kabanos were made from 143g of pork and from 14g of beef.” However, laboratory analysis did not prove presence of beef protein, the product contained no more than 1 gram of beef (the limit of the laboratory method) instead of 14 grams of beef stated on the labelling.

PIKOK KABANOSY S CHILLI, packaged à: 120 g, lot: L 0196/F130/11073 08:19:37/ 11 12, best before date by: 20.06.2019, country of origin: Poland. Among others, the producer stated on the labelling: “100g of kabanos were made from 142g of pork and from 14g of beef.” However, laboratory analysis did not prove presence of beef protein, the product contained no more than 1 gram of beef (the limit of the laboratory method) instead of 14 grams of beef stated on the labelling.

Information on the labelling thus misled consumers as regards the actual food composition of the given lots and Regulation No. 1169/2011 on the provision of information to consumers was violated, namely in the meaning of misleading of consumers.

CAFIA ordered the seller to withdraw the foodstuff in question from all branches and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of fine.

Note: As regards dried (durable and fermented) meat products, weight of the final product after drying is stated on the labelling, however, weight of single constituents is stated before drying. That is why the sum of the weights of the constituents is higher than the weight of the final product.

CAFIA informed of similar cases in its press releases of 12th March 2019 and 8th March 2019.
