CAFIA found 3 lots of misleadingly labelled kabanos made by TARCZYNSKI S.A.

03/12/2019

Within ongoing targeted inspections, the inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found three non-compliant lots of meat products originating from producer TARCZYNSKI S.A., Ujezdziec Maly 80, 55-100 Trzebnica, Poland. Following products are concerned:

KABANOS KLASICKÝ VEPŘOVÝ (kabanos made of pork), size of the packaging: 200 g, lot: L0151, use by: 7. 3. 2019, country of origin: Poland. The producer indicated, inter alia, on the labelling: 100 g of the product was made of 142 g of pork. However, laboratory analysis confirmed amount of meat not higher than 122 g. The inspectors sampled the non-compliant lot at the premises of company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s., Romana Havelky 4842/1a, Jihlava.

KABANOS EXCLUSIVE CHILLI, size of the packaging: 120 g, lot: L0856, use by: 3. 4. 2019, country of origin: Poland. The producer indicated, inter alia, on the labelling: 185 g was used to produce 100 g of the product. However, laboratory analysis confirmed amount of meat not higher than 164.3 g. The inspectors sampled the non-compliant lot at the premises of company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s., Romana Havelky 4842/1a, Jihlava.

KABANOS EXCLUSIVE CHEESE, size of the packaging: 120 g, lot: L0775, use by: 31. 3. 2019, country of origin: Poland. The producer indicated, inter alia, on the labelling: 180 g was used to produce 100 g of the product. However, laboratory analysis confirmed amount of meat not higher than 145.8 g. The inspectors sampled the non-compliant lot at the premises of company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s., Spojovací 1345, Střítež, Třebíč.

Company Gornicky, s.r.o., Harantova 1359, Písek was supplier of the foodstuff in all cases.

The information on the labelling misled consumers as regards the real content of the foodstuff. The inspected person thus violated European Regulation No. 1169/2011 on provision of foodstuffs to consumers, namely as regards misleading of consumers.

CAFIA ordered withdrawal of the foodstuffs in question from all its branches and will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.

Note: As regards dry (durable and fermented) meat products, the weight of the final product after drying shall be indicated on the labelling as well as the weight of single ingredients before drying. That is why the sum of the weight of the ingredients is higher than the total weight of the final product.

CAFIA informed of similar case in its Press Release of 8th March 2019.
