Within an inspection of foodstuffs imported from countries outside the EU, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) did not release onto the Czech internal market a non-compliant lot of a foodstuff, namely 50 kg of whole dried red chili pepper packaged à 500g. The consignment was detained in co-operation with the Customs Authorities in the customs area in Prague – Uhříněves.
Supplier into the CR, company JAGS CREATIONS, C-3/12, 2ND Floor JAKPURI NEW DEHLI, India, failed to proceed in compliance with implementing Regulation (EU) No. 884/2014 imposing special conditions governing the import of certain feed and food from selected third countries. Import of these commodities via a designated place of import (DPI) is one of the conditions. Customs Authority in Rudná, not CA in Prague Uhříněves where the consignment was delivered, is the DPI for chili peppers.
In case of foodstuffs from India, the mentioned Regulation applies also to further commodities, such as nutmeg nuts, peanuts (also to tinned peanuts or processed another way).
The supplier further failed to accompany the consignment with documentation in the required extent including certification on health soundness and with the entry document with confirmation of the designated place of entry into the EU.
A part of the consignment was contaminated by moulds, however, with regard to the failure to keep the expedition procedures described above, the laboratory analysis was not necessary.
Company ELLORA s.r.o., Vršovická 922/99, 100 00 Prague 10 was then the recipient of the consignment in the CR.
The consignment was not released onto the CR market and consumers thus were not threatened. CAFIA entered the information on the detection into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
