The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) carried out an inspection focused on transport of foodstuffs at the premises of the Prague market hall SAPA. Apart from CAFIA, representatives of the Police of the CR, the Customs Authorities and the State Veterinary Administration also participated in the inspection activity.
In case of three vehicles, CAFIA inspectors revealed serious violation of safety rules during transport and imposed therefore a ban on placing 1.733 kg of foodstuffs on the market, which were transported in these vehicles. Following detections were concerned:
A vehicle without cooling equipment of operator SHIN s.r.o.; inspectors detected, inter alia, transport of frozen foodstuffs in original packaging (e.g. surimi sticks, filled pastry and further frozen goods). Although frozen foodstuffs required storying under -18°C, the operator transported them without a freezing equipment. The temperature detected in the car amounted up to +34°C.
A vehicle without a cooling equipment of operator PTTAN s.r.o.; the inspectors detected, inter alia, transport of foodstuffs that were supposed to be chilled – exotic herbs and fruit (e.g. water sprouts, cocoa, litchi and further chilled foodstuffs). The temperature in the car exceeded 28°C and the foodstuffs showed marks after sensory changes – odour, condensation and bedewing of packaging. The inspectors further stated that foodstuffs are not labelled in compliance with legislation – completely or insufficiently.
A vehicle without a cooling equipment of operator Le Thi Ha, in which, inter alia, tofu was transported at more than 28°C, moreover, with serious deficiencies in labelling (missing best before date, weight, etc.).
With regard to the fact that foodstuffs at which the temperature chain had been discontinued cannot be regarded as safe, the inspectors imposed a ban on placing the products in question on the market. Interruption of the temperature chain may lead to a bacterial contamination of the foodstuff in question and it cannot be removed by subsequent cooling or freezing.
CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
