The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) banned placing on the market of 7 tons of dried fruit goji from China (also known as Lycium chinense), at which an laboratory analysis proved contamination by pesticides belonging to the group of Carbofurnas banned in the EU.

Foodstuff GOJI GRAD A – dried singlecomponent fruit, labelled by best before date by 7^th October 2018, LOT: PFT16080, supplier: QINGDAO PERFECT IMPORT & EXPORT CO. LTD, ROOM 2201, UNIT 2, BUILDING 3, NO.7B SHANDONG ROAD, QINGDAO, China is concerned. The non-compliant sample was taken by inspectors with monitoring of foreign substances, namely in company Diana Company s. r. o., Rumunská 8, 120 00 Prague 2 that is the importer into the CR as well.

CAFIA ordered Diana Company s.r.o. to inform all customers and ensured withdrawing of the non-compliant lot from the market. At the same time, CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure with the importer.

Investigation confirmed not only 161 customers in the CR but also 10 in Austria and Hungary and therefore CAFIA entered information on this detection into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed RASFF.

Carbofuran had been to be used as a strong insecticide and due to its undesirable effects, it has been banned in the EU since 2008.
