CAFIA warns about false inspector

09/06/2016

Based on the information of the Hygiene Service of the Capital City of Prague, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) informs operators of public catering premises of activities of a person who passes himself of an CAFIA inspector despite any authorisation. The person in question moves on the territory of Prague, introduces himself as Bc. Pavel Koudný and takes samples at the premises of public catering. Fortunately, he has not tried to fine an operator yet. He informs the operators that he works for CAFIA as a private external supplier of services. He does not elaborate protocols on inspections and if asked, he shows a service card of the Institute for Food and Hygiene Inspection.

CAFIA strongly warns all operators of public catering premises that only own employees perform inspections and there is no co-operation with external subjects in this matter. CAFIA inspectors always show their service card with a photo and authorization to perform inspections at the beginning of each inspection. CAFIA inspectors always provide the operator with a protocol on sampling in case a sample is taken. All fines are imposed within an administrative procedure by a Director of the respective Inspectorate, i.e. inspectors never collect fines on the spot. In case of doubts, it is possible to verify the identity of the inspecting person at the respective Inspectorate by phone.

When detecting activities of a false inspector, CAFIA recommends that the Police of the Czech Republic is informed.
