Cheese Bluedino in Lidl misled as regards milk fat

05/26/2016

During an inspection carried out in a branch of Lidl Česká republika, v.o.s., the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected cheese Bluedino Polooštiepok, non-smoked, packaged à 190 grams with denomination of the lot L 16 087 – 11, producer MILSY a.s., Partizánská 224/B SK-957 01 Bánovce nad Bebravou, Slovakia.

The producer indicated on the labeling that so-called fat in dry matter amounts at least to 40%. However, the laboratory analysis showed that fat content in dry matter is 37.4% only. Milk fat is the most expensive ingredient of cheese and the amount of fat in dry matter is the elementary indicator of the nature of the cheese in question. Indicating untrue value is assessed as misleading of consumers in compliance with relevant legislation.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the operator.
