CAFIA ordered to withdraw adulterated frozen pangasius with 50% of meat

03/18/2016

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company AHOLD Czech Republic, a.s. to withdraw two lots of deeply frozen foodstuffs PANGAS DOLNOOKÝ – pangasius filets without skin with added water, glazed, producer ANMYFISHCO Phu Hoa, An Giang, country of origin: Vietnam, lots and use by dates (1): VN 311 VI 311, do 09/2017 and (2.): VN 311 VI 358, use by: 10/2017. Company Animalco a.s., Na Krocínce 1, 160 41, Prague 6 is the importer of the foodstuff in question.

The labelling of the product contains information: fish meat 90%, potable water 10%,..., net weight after dripping (without glazing) 900 g. The CAFIA laboratory analysis confirmed meat content amounting to 48.3% and 48.7%, i.e. the real content of meat was almost by a half lower than indicated on the labelling of the product.

With regard to the fact that the foodstuff was adulterated with addition of water, CAFIA ordered the seller to withdraw the non-compliant lot from the market network. At the same time, CAFI will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the seller.

Adulteration of frozen fish products with water amounting to dozens of percent is regarded as extraordinary unscrupulous practice. CAFIA will therefore continue in inspections of this assortment. Further detections of adulterated frozen fish products are published on the Food Pillory website on a regular basis.
