CAFIA releases further lots of honey with antibiotics

12/01/2015

After making the summary of 21 lots of honeys produced by Včelpo company public at which results of laboratory analysis confirmed presence of antibiotics, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) releases results of further four lots from the producer in question. The analysis confirmed presence of residues of antibiotics streptomycine and sulfonamides (sulfadimidine and sulfathiazol) in all products mentioned which were sampled in retail network. These are pharmacologically effective substances of which use in the bees’ treatment is banned in the EU. Residues of such substances must not be present in honey.

The information has already been handed to the partner supervisory authority – the State Veterinary Administration which is responsible for inspection of production of honey.

CAFIA currently took 16 samples of honey produced by foreign producers in retail network. Results of the analyses are known as regards 5 of these samples so far, and they were compliant in all monitored parameters.

Summary of  non-compliant samples produced by Včelpo company of which analyses were finished after making the press release of 26th November 2015 public:
