With its project Food Pillory, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) won the category titled Application for Better World of the public inquiry Mobile Application of the Year. The results were announced by the organiser of the inquiry – TUESDAY Business Network within the gala ceremony held yesterday. Total ranking was decided by approximately 12,000 public votes.
The application was launched in September 2013 and at the present time it is used by more than 27,000 consumers. Users can learn about unsafe, adulterate or poor-quality foodstuffs found in retail network. The application also informs consumers of deficiencies found in close retails by means of GPS module and enables to submit a suggestion to the nearest CAFIA Inspectorate directly from the shop where the unsafe foodstuffs was found. The service is available to consumers for free and it can be installed on mobile phones and tablets with operating system Android, iOS (Apple) and Windows Phone. CAFIA extends the application by additional services on regular basis – news could be expected in the near future.
The mobile application is an offshoot of the website Food Pillory where CAFIA has been publishing detailed results of its inspections since 2012. This information concerns in particular unsafe, adulterate and poor-quality foodstuffs in retails and food production. The webpage provides consumers with advices how to prevent sale of non-compliant goods present on the complex food market. The website has been visited by almost 2.800.000 consumers and became a double winner of the category Service Beneficial for the Public within the Chrystal Magnifying Glass Award.
CAFIA regards its victory in the category Application for Better World as appreciation of the work of all their employees, without whose day-to-day effort, the provision of such service for the public would be impossible.
