Adulterated Fish Fingers Contained 25% Less Meat Compared to Information on Labelling

04/23/2014

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company AHOLD Czech Republic, a. s. to withdraw adulterated foodstuff Tiko Fish Fingers packaged ŕ 250 g with best before date by February 2015 produced by Frosta Sp. z. o o.ul, Witebska 63, 85-778 Bydgoszcz, Poland from all its premises in the CR. The producer indicated on the labelling that the minimum content of sea fish meat was 36%, however the laboratory analysis confirmed no more than 26.9% of fish meat in the product.
The seller violated European Regulation No. 178/2002, as he offered a foodstuff that might mislead consumers by information on the labelling. CAFIA therefore ordered the operator to immediately withdraw the non-complying foodstuff from retail network. An administrative procedure will be initiated with the inspected person. Further investigation of the case showed that 17,920 pieces of consumer packagings were placed on the market and the seller withdrew 414 pieces.
