During its inspection in retail network, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected two lots of non-compliant product Mák modrý (blue poppy) packaged ŕ 250 g with best before date by 29th November 2014 and 20th January 2015 produced and distributed by ENCINGER, spol. s r. o., Bratislava. The first sample was taken at the premises of HRUŠKA spol. s r. o. on Jungmannova street in Hradec Králové and the second product in question was found in PRAMEN CZ, a. s. on 17th November street in Písek.
Laboratory analysis showed presence of opium alkaloid morphine in concentration amounting to 86.1 mg/kg and 56.2 mg/kg. Based on the risk assessment carried out by the Ministry of Health, poppy intended for human consumption containing more than 43 mg/kg of morphine cannot be regarded as safe.
CAFIA has already notified of non-compliant samples of poppy originating from ENCINGER, spol. s r. o. company in its press release of 4th February 2014. The Inspection Authority will initiate an administrative proceeding on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons.
