New Feature on the Food Pillory Website

A new significant public service was launched on the Food Pillory website (www.potravinynapranyri.cz), where The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter CAFIA only) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture for already 10 months publishes information on a poor-quality, adulterated and dangerous foodstuffs animal or non-animal origin. In the new „Information“ section the Inspection presents clear and in a well-arranged manner answers to frequently asked questions of the customers. On the website there is link to explanations of the terminology, basics of food legal provisions. Information help to improve the knowledge and the position of the customers. There are also popular educative articles with practical information on how to select foodstuffs, how to handle them at home and also offer curiosities from the food field. Articles utilize long professional activities of the CAFIA experts. The knowledge will help customers to find safe and quality food on the market.
Since the launch of the website on July 2012 the CAFIA has published information on 958 foodstuffs violating the standards. Information could be searched according to various criteria in „advanced search“ or the premises where the CAFIA detected unsatisfactory products could be preview on the map. The aim of the project is mainly to protect customers and to support honest shopkeepers and food producers. All published information is a result of current and officially concluded inspection findings of CAFIA. There are all necessary details on the website providing the identification of harmful foodstuffs, especially name of the foodstuff, producer, production number, selling place, country of origin and the others.

Two weeks ago the Food Pillory website exceeded 2 million visitors. The website was awarded Crystal Magnifying Glass (“Kryšťálová lupa”) 2012 for category Public Utility Services of the Czech internet.
