Food Pillory website (
www.potravinynapranyri.cz), where The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter CAFIA only) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture publishes information on a poor-quality, adulterated and dangerous foodstuffs, was visited by a 2 millionth visitor on April 26, 2013. Since the launch of the website on July 10, 2012 customers were able to find information on 958 foodstuffs violating the standards. The list of foodstuffs is growing on a daily basis.
„Food Pillory website immediately attracted the public attention, which is proved by 2 million visits. I am glad the website have succeeded and we could present the results of our supervisory authorities in a well-arranged manner,“ said Petr Bendl the Minister of Agriculture.
An average visit time of the website is 4,5 minutes and during the visit customers display 11 items. Approximately 90 % of visitors uses the Czech version of the website and 10 % uses the English version. Out of the country accesses were especially from the USA, Slovakia, Poland, Great Britain and Germany. More than 13 000 customers is being registered to be informed by the news sent to their personal email addresses.
Website is continously being improved by CAFIA based on the sugestions made by the customers. Currently the website was released in a version for visually impaired, the Advanced Search has a new feature, the customers may search according to the address, post code of inspection site or GPS coordinates. The search result offers a map with the highlighted places of inspections where the unsatisfactory product was found or list of these stores.
Food Pillory website was created as a tool to be used by customers to enable them to make an informed decisions on which foodstuffs to buy. The aim of the project is mainly to protect customers and to support honest shopkeepers and food producers. All published information is a result of current and officially concluded inspection findings of CAFIA. There are all necessary details on the website providing the identification of harmfull foodstuffs, especially name of the foodstuff, producer, production number, selling place, country of origin and the others.
