Three stores closed down by Food Inspection Authority

03/21/2013

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter CAFIA only) has closed down retail premises of Penny Market based in Husova street no. 241 Domažlice for violation of numerous hygienic requirements. During its inspection on 19th March 2013 CAFIA has found large amount of mouse excrements, eaten food pieces and other hints showing presence of rodents in the store and its facilities. CAFIA noticed mice excrements and eaten food pieces on foodstuffs placed on shelves offered to customers. Mostly affected products were confectionary products and semi-finished products. The nspection Authority further noted that store was not sufficiently protected against incoming pests from outside and adopted measures against pests were absolutely insufficient. For the reason of the findings above, CAFIA immediately impose ban on store usage, imposed measures on the store operator in order to put the store in compliance with legal provisions and forbid selling any products with traces of rodents. The store operator in cooperation with a rodent control and cleaning company removed found malpractices and therefore CAFIA has lifted its provisions after repeated inspection on 20th March.
Other example of serious violation of hygienic rules has been found in retail premises Petr Kořínek in Žitná street no. 157/7 Prostějov. During inspection on 19th March 2013 CAFIA found hints showing presence of rodents – especially mouse excrements and eaten food pieces – in all store areas including shelves with groceries. The Inspection Authority noted that hygienic rules for selling foodstuffs were violated, therefore CAFIA imposed ban on usage of the store area. Moreover, CAFIA ordered immediate remedy of its findings and banned selling foodstuffs with traces of pests. The store operator removed found malpractices and CAFIA on 21st March lifted its ban on store usage. On Friday 15th March 2013 the Inspection Authority closed down retail premises Pekárna Ječmínek in entrance hall of Metro station Luka in Prague 5 for large appearance of rodent presence in the store and on selling products (previously published details about the case find HERE). After repeated inspections the Inspectorate CAFIA in Prague noted that malpractices were removed and on 20th March in the afternoon lifted its previous ban.

With the above mentioned store operators CAFIA will proceed with an administrative procedure for violation of legal provisions.
