During an inspection in customs store, the inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detained 50 kg of black tea Oolong originating in China which contained seven various pesticide residues. Each of these substances was present in the amount which strongly exceeded the maximum limits.
More than 25 000 cups of tea can be prepared from 50 kg of tea leaves.
Tea leaves from China belong to the commodities which are subject to strengthened official inspection. They can be imported only through places which are designated for entry and are subordinate to special supervision of inspection authorities before they are put into circulation.
Thanks to timely action the tea was not put into circulation, the importer has to reimburse the costs for sampling and sample´s evaluation. CAFIA ordered to destroy this dangerous tea delivery.
