CAFIA Inspectorate in Tábor carried out an inspection at the premises of PENNY MARKET s. r. o. at Průběžná street in České Budějovice. The inspection concerned products labelled with “Czech Quality” label with the image of the Czech Republic flag. The inspection revealed that 3 products labelled such way were produced in Poland and Slovakia. CAFIA assessed this labelling as misleading and PENNY MARKET was ordered to check and possibly re-label the products labelled with this label at all its premises.
Incorrect labelling concerned frozen chicken breast fillets and Fishi rollmop from Poland, and Maratonec cheese with fibre from Slovakia.
“According to the results of the survey published today by the Ministry of Agriculture, Czechs prefer domestic foodstuffs to imported ones, and more than 70% of consumers are the opinion that foodstuffs produced in the Czech Republic are quality. CAFIA also checks whether designation of the origin of products on the market corresponds with the reality in order to prevent misleading of consumers such way,” Jakub Šebesta, Director General of CAFIA, said today.
Administrative proceeding on the imposition of a fine will be launched with the inspected person.
