Deoxynivalenol in oat flakes Nordwaldtaler

By an immediate inspection, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority today reacted to the information from Germany that the oat flakes Nordwaldtaler, supplied to the Czech market too, contained excessive amount of dioxynivalenol. The product is being withdrawn from circulation now.
The notification received by the Rapid Alert System of Food and Feed (RASFF) refers to Nordwaldtaler Haferflocken – fine-grained whole meal flakes, weight of package 500g, best before 14.2.2013, 21.01.2013, 06.01.2013, 11.01.2013 and 17.01.2013. The producer is Peter Kölln KGaA, Westerstr. 22 - 24, 25336 Elmshorn, Germany. The determined limit of deoxynivalenol in flakes was exceeded more than three times.
The product was sold in retail chain Lidl. Besides other things, CAFIA ordered the inspected person to inform whether the flakes were supplied to catering services or distributed outside the Czech Republic.
Deoxynivalenol also called vomitoxin is mykotoxin which can evocate vomiting and absence of appetite caused by the influencing of the nervous system.
Considering the best before date, consumers still may have this product still at home. CAFIA does not recommend its consumption.
