Modified use by dates at sliced cheeses

02/16/2012

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority banned the sale of nearly 25 kg of cheeses which were offered at the premises of Kaufland the Czech Republic v.o.s., Na Řadech, Blansko. The reason for this measure was misleading labelling of products with incorrect use by dates and best before dates.
Cheeses were sliced from the original packages which were labelled with corresponding use by date or best before date directly by the producer. After slicing the commodity was provided by a new label with longer use by date which was not corresponding with the reality.
Following products were concerned:
Product
Declared use by date
Date declared by the  producer

Way of sale

18.02.2012 (best before date)

CAFIA evaluated this misleading labelling of products as so-called the unfair business practice which is banned by the Consumer Protection Act. In addition to that, in the day of inspection, the Paladin cheese was sold with use-by-date which was expired already.

Administrative procedure on imposition of a fine will be initiated with the seller.
