CAFIA prohibited using of food storage in Prague market hall Saparia

05/05/2011

During targeted inspection of the wholesale market Saparia at Libušská street in Prague, CAFIA inspectors found serious hygienic deficiencies. The inspection was carried out in cooperation with the Police of the Czech Republic and resulted from a notice from customs authorities staff.

In the food store in the building B1, CAFIA inspectors found living gnawers, their droppings and freely thrown gnawer poison on the floor next to food. Some foods and their wrappers were gnawed and contaminated with urine. Strong odour and mustiness smelt in the premises.

CAFIA therefore exposed ban on usage of storage premises and on marketing the food. A total of 24,781.61 kg of food and 967.68 liters of canned soft drinks  were concerned.

Disposal of food contaminated and otherwise damaged by gnawers has also been ordered. In the course of the inspection, about 400 kg of food was taken away for disposal. CAFIA also advised the State Veterinary Administration of the situation.
