CAFIA detected mouse droppings and mould at two premises

02/18/2011

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected absolutely non-complying sanitary conditions during inspections of two premises in the Central Bohemian Region.

The first case concerned grocery store Alena Hollanová in Obříství, where mouse droppings at the whole premises including its background were found out. During the inspection, the food business operator was not able to document that procedures for regulation of vermin had been in place. Presence of rodents or any other vermin at the premises is absolutely inadmissible and foodstuffs affected by rodents or contaminated by their droppings are not appropriate for human consumption. With regard to the fact that the operator was not able to ensure conditions enabling keeping food safety at the premises mentioned above, they were immediately closed down.

Production of confectionary products run by company STATUS – BOHEMIA company s.r.o. was the second case. Honey cakes, in which production and sale the company specializes, were produced in absolutely non-complying sanitary conditions. Premises were heavily dirty, extensive mould was detected on the walls, doors and also on the ceiling. Raw materials were stored on the dirty floor and waste was piled here as well. Based on these findings, inspectors banned using these premises for production.

Administrative procedure will be launched with both companies. STATUS - BOHEMIA company s.r.o. may resume its production only after the approval of CAFIA that will be given after all detected deficiencies will be removed and safety production of foodstuffs will be ensured. The operator in Obříství had already fulfilled the measures imposed and sale of foodstuffs could be therefore resumed again.
