CAFIA banned sale of noodles from China

12/16/2010

Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority banned sale of ready-made noodles (package á 500g, best before date 30th September 2012), country of origin: China and glass noodles (package á 250g, best before date 31st December 2012) also originating from China.
Noodles contain higher amounts of aluminum than the limit set by the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health. The limit is 10 mg/kg.
Samples of noodles were subject to official laboratory analyses and concentration of aluminum in ready-made noodles was 21.10 mg/kg and in glass noodles 142.00 mg/kg.
Noodles have been imported to the Czech Republic by Vivacomex Company Ltd.
The food is unfit for human consumption because of contamination by foreign substances and CAFIA immediately ordered its withdrawal from the market. Due to the best before date, consumers might have some packages left at home. CAFIA does not recommend consumption of this particular product.
All EU Member States have been notified through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
