The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority solved another case related to dangerous preparation intended for sportspeople. Product Muscletech Cryotest (best before date 03/2011, package à 168 capsules) originating in the USA was concerned. Company Redam s.r.o. from Smržice imported it through Poland and distributed it to the Czech Republic.
Colouring Erythrosine E 127 was used during the production of these capsules. This colouring is authorised, however, it cannot be used during the production of the given type of foodstuff. Labelling of the product also failed to indicate information on the content in Czech. The English text indicated presence of yohimbine which was subsequently confirmed by laboratory analysis carried out by CAFIA. Yohimbine is pharmacologically effective substance and it is a component of some medicaments. With respect to possible side effects, the use of such medicaments is subjected to medical prescription. According to the assessment of the Ministry of Health, a foodstuff sold over the counter and containing yohimbine cannot be regarded as safe.
Based on the information mentioned above, product Muscletech Cryotest was banned and company Redam s.r.o. was ordered to withdraw it from the market. 24 packages, i.e. 4032 capsules were imported to the CR. Should consumers have this product at home, the Inspection Authority does not recommend its consumption.
