Food Inspection Authority detected two products containing non-declared allergen in retail network

05/11/2010

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority banned marketing of two products of which labelling failed to indicate sulfur dioxide even though they contained it. Sulfur dioxide in concentration higher than 10 milligrams per one kilogram is regarded as an allergen. From this reason, operators have to indicate presence of this ingredient clearly on the food labelling so that people suffering from this allergy could avoid these foodstuffs.
The first case concerned packaged raisins (Seedless raisins – dried fruit of one sort, à 100g, originating in India, best before 04. 2011, batch L9292V303 and L9293V303, producer VOG, s.r.o., Strančice). Packaged raisins were distributed in the amount of 3 315 kg, i.e. of 33 150 consumer packagings. On the basis of the measure imposed by CAFIA, 406 packagings were withdrawn from the market. The remaining part had been already sold out.
The second case concerned product Gamba delicatessen peppers filled with cabbage (à 670g, best before 23.10.2012, originating in Hungary). 30 240 pieces of this product were imported from Slovakia to the Czech Republic by company A&Z Rišňovský, Halász, s.r.o. In total, 462 pieces of the product in question were withdrawn from the retail network.

In case consumers suffering from the allergy to sulfur dioxide had batches of the products mentioned above at home, the Inspection Authoritiy does not recommend they eat them.
