The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority managed another intervention against dangerous foodstuffs. More than a month has passed since a food supplement with the disallowed substance tadalafil has been revealed and the inspection had to solve three other similar cases. This time CAFIA discovered on the market a food supplement aimed at enhancing sexual potency, package containing one pill, in which not only tadalafil, but also sildenafil was detected. In both cases pharmacologically effective substances are concerned which can only be contained in registered and hence controlled medicaments. Taking of these pills is possible only on medical prescription due to potential side-effects. In freely available preparations content of these substances is inadmissible.
At the same importer two other samples of rather curious chewing-gums with flavour were taken, produced separately for women and for men. Besides refreshment of the oral cavity the chewing-gums promised on the package also stimulation of kidney function and enhancement of sexual potency. Variant for women also lured on breast enlargement and menstruation arrangement. Also in these two foodstuffs laboratory analyses proved content of tadalafil and sildenafil.
All three products were imported by the Czech company Redmedia Enterprise Ltd. from China, however, the products were not intended for the Czech Republic. The importer wanted to distribute them to Switzerland, Austria, France and Germany. Even before sample was taken, a part of the consignment had been sold to a customer from Great Britain. Now all goods have to be destroyed under supervision of the inspection. Thus, 700 chewing-gum packages will be destroyed, each per twenty pellets, and 8000 pills of the dangerous food supplement.
The products were not sold on the Czech market therefore there is no risk for Czech consumers. The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority informed its British colleagues about this case by means of the EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed.
