By the end of November, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority concluded inspections of sale of half-fermented wine. Now the Inspection Authority has available further results of laboratory analyses of half-fermented wine which was sampled this year. The aim of these analyses was to reveal adulteration, thus adding water to half-fermented wine which is prohibited by the law.

In the second round, 20 samples were analysed, of which “baptizing“ with water was revealed only in three cases. In total, 49 samples were taken this year, both at stall sellers and operators of ordinary wine shops. Samples for analyses were not taken randomly, but after sensory assessment on the spot. Adulteration of half-fermented wine was revealed only in seven cases. Content of water in these non-complying cases ranged between 15 and 47 percent. Analyses carried out this year showed much better results than in the previous year when CAFIA solved 15 cases of adulteration with water.

From the reason of consumers‘ deception, administrative procedure will be initiated with all 7 operators at which adulteration of half-fermented wine was revealed. Determining the amount of fine imposed is a part of this procedure.

Note: CAFIA took samples at salespersons (inspected persons). Information on producers or suppliers was found out from documentation submitted during inspection.
