Delegation from the Development Research Centre of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China visited the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority in Brno

A delegation from the Development Research Centre of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, led by Mr. Han Jun, Director General of Rural Affairs, visited the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority on 8 December 2005. The delegation was accompanied by Mrs. Phillipa Kelly, advisor for a project concerning trade between the European Union and China, aimed at supporting China’s integration into the international trading system.

The members of the delegation were particularly interested in the food safety control system in the Czech Republic and in CAFIA activities. At the request of the Chinese delegation, the CAFIA inspectors presented a practical demonstration of inspection in food establishment, including the use of computer technology and entering data on performed inspection in the Inspection and Laboratory Activities information system directly at the place of inspection. The CAFIA

epresentatives acquainted the delegation not only with inspections but also with CAFIA’s own specialized laboratories. The delegation showed great interest in the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, RASFF, the national contact point of which is the CAFIA, and in CAFIA obligations arising from EU membership.

The Development Research Centre of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China is charged with developing a new food safety policy concept that shall be implemented in
2006 – 2010.
